Blind spots
As a leader, it’s important to be self-aware. But every time I think I’ve figured myself out, someone exposes a blind spot.
A blind spot is something that’s there, but we can’t see it. We’re unaware of its presence.
We all have blind spots. Some are physical like the car you cut off on your way to work. Others are mental like your biases, beliefs, and habits.
Our mental blind spots affect our decision-making, emotions, and relationships. They affect our ability to lead.
How many mental blind spots do I have? I haven’t a clue. They’re blind spots. I have no idea one exists until someone else makes me aware of it.
The trick is to be aware that the blind spots exist and seek help from others in identifying them.
We all need more “blind spotters” in our life.
